How to Make a Planter Out of a Carboard Box

here’s a creative WAY TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BOXES IN YOUR RECYCLE BIN

I decided to take an Amazon box and see if I could create a box with “legs.” I had to think about what I would do with it, and I decided to create a planter.  With paint, fabric and jute twine (which if you have not figured out, is my favorite material to work with these days), I just dove in and said, “let’s see what happens!”

First I removed all the labels and tape from the box.  I cut off the flaps to the opening of the box and made sure the bottom was secured with masking tape.

Next, I took chalk paint and painted all sides of the box, including the bottom, leaving about 3-4 inches exposed from paint. You can paint the whole box. I just chose to take a short cut.

Once the paint dried, I added 4 wooden short legs that I had for years; thinking I would make a small ottoman but never did. I punched holes in the bottom of the box and screwed in the legs, also adding hot glue for a secure fit.

I took fabric I found in my scrap fabric stash and cut out the flower designs.  I then used Mod Podge and painted it over the dried paint to create a glue for placing the cut out fabric flowers onto the painted areas around the box. I painted the Mod Podge over the flowers to create a seal.  I let it dry and added a second coat; making sure the flowers and painted areas were well covered. Mod Podge will dry clear and create a nice semi sheen seal.

I then took the jute twine, and using a hot glue gun, attached it around the top edge of the box. Then I glued the twine around the lower sides of the box, wrapping it around until it had covered the none painted areas.

I chose to splash some paint on the inside of the box as well and then took a basket of artificial greenery and flowers and placed them in the box.
