Upcycle Jars with Jute

Jute Project Number One

Jute is an environmentally friendly fiber that is mostly harvested and manufactured in India. Its uses are vast; from rugs to bags to home décor. I love working with it because it’s the perfect material for ecofriendly upcycled decorating.

While watching TV one night I decided to pull out a used jar, the hot glue gun, some jute twine, and an old drawer knob.

Using my hot glue gun and 4mm natural jute twine I wrapped the jar starting, at the top.

Next, I found a nail and hammered a hole in the top of the jar lid. This was a bit of overkill, so now I just of just use hot glue. I glued the drawer knob to the lid to create a false pull (since the lid is a screw top).

After checking my work I felt it needed a little color, so I added a resin starfish from my craft stash using the hot glue gun.

Now I have a jar that just looks cute! This is a great project if you are a beginner at using jute and a hot glue gun. It would be a great addition to a bathroom. Store cotton balls or q-tips in it, or simply let it add texture and pop to your “beach house” décor.
