How to Upcycle a Cereal Box

Cereal Boxes go staight to the recycle bin, But they don’t have to

Here’s a quick and easy way to make table decorations on a budget. Whether it’s for a wedding, a banquet, party or just quick seasonal home décor, it’s possible to do it with one of the most common items in your kitchen. A cereal box.

Recently I emptied one of my favorite cereals and stared at the box thinking, “what can I do with this?”

I cut off the top, grabbed some chalk paint, twine and mod podge and started creating a table top vase.  I knew I had extra cut out fabric flowers from my previous cardboard box creation.

I painted the cereal box and let it dry. Then I applied mod podge to the painted box to attach the fabric flowers. Next, I painted over the fabric flower with mod podge.

The fabric cut out flower was a little large for the box, but with mod podge, you can stiffen your attached design so no trimming is necessary. Once the box dried, I went a step further and added a jewel I found in my craft stash to the center of the flower using a hot glue gun.

Next, using the hot glue gun, I attached twine around the top of the box for a finished look.

I added some dried flowers, and now I have a cut vase to complement the cardboard planter box that I created. But you can use this same project to create any kind of theme you want, and if you already have the crafting supplies, you can decorate for free!
