Reuse Food Containers as Bathroom Storage
If there’s anything we all have too many of, it’s take out food containers. The pandemic probably increased the clutter in our plasticware cabinets by tenfold. And it just keeps coming. No need to toss it. Here’s how you can turn old food containers into storage.
After a recent birthday celebration with catered BBQ and all the fixings, I found that I was washing several plastic containers that contained potato salad, coleslaw and beans. They are good containers, and they just couldn’t be tossed in the trash.

I decided to cover the containers with fabric from my fabric stash. I needed 3 strips of fabric for 3 containers. With the help of a quilting ruler and an iron, I measured and cut the correct length and width to wrap around each container.

I applied the fabric using mod podge as the glue. Then I applied 2 coats of mod podge to the fabric to stiffen it, letting the mod podge dry between coats.

Those of you that have followed my creations know what comes next – jute twine! I applied the twine to cover the bottom of the container and around the top using a hot glue gun. I used both a natural color and white twine. I love jute because it’s sustainable and versatile. Always opt for natural fibers when you can.

To finish up the project, using a hot glue gun, I attached a resin starfish from my craft stash

To complement the large plastic food containers, I took an empty plastic Jordan almond container that I had saved, and I attached the natural and white colored jute twine using a hot glue gun.

I also added a resin starfish to match the other 3 food containers.

To complete the upcycled food container project, I took a glass pickle jar, that I had washed, and removed the lid.

Using the hot glue gun, I wrapped both natural and white jute twine around the jar and along the bottom.

I also added a resin starfish using a hot glue gun.

I don’t have a medicine cabinet in my primary bath. I only have opened shelving. These containers work perfectly to hide my beauty products and makeup!
