How to Make Bathroom Shelves with Old Trays

Increase Bathroom Storage with old serving trays

I have these nice white metal trays in my primary bathroom that hold toiletries while gathering dust at the same time! I love white since it looks clean, but it was time to try something different for the bathroom sink/vanity area.

I started by finding some cute fabric in my fabric stash and cutting it to fit the inside of the tray bottom. I used Mod Podge to attach the fabric. I also applied Mod Podge to the top off the fabric to create a protectant barrier from water and dust.

Next, I had to get my jute twine out. Using a hot glue gun, I attached it around the top and half way down the sides of the tray to break up the white color.

Since I had two of these trays, I decided to take it a step further by stacking one on top of the other using a glass flower vase that I found in my “vase” collection. I also had some left over craft sand and seashells from my Grandmother Lucy’s shell collection.

I poured the sand into the vase and stacked the shells on top of the sand. I placed the vase in one of the trays, and using E6000 clear flexible glue, I attached the 2nd tray to the top of the vase.

Now I have a tiered, space saving tray for my bathroom sink and vanity area.
