Protect Your Skin from the Sun

it’s important that we take care of our skin at every age

Tans are nice! They make us look youthful and healthy. They are the ultimate beachwear. However, it is important to take care of your skin at every age! So let’s talk about beachy beauty.

The obvious solution is sunscreen. If you’ve outgrown the Coppertone kid, then you may want something designed your grownup face and body. Whatever you do, do your research! There are products that protect you under your makeup, products that work safely on your body and your face, and even cleansers and toners that help support healthy skin after the beach.

What about the rest of the family? I think many of us would agree that men are the worst about protecting their skin. Kids are worse than men. So get a good all around sunscreen that’s safe for face and body and put on them yourself if you have to!

Although we’ve all been told the higher the SPF, the better, experts suggest that anything higher than 50 SPF is only marginally better. Any sunscreen is only effective for about two hours after applied, so don’t forget to keep up with reapplication if you’re going to be in the sun all day. If you skip sunscreen at a young age, you’re going to pay for it when you’re older.

You are at higher risk for skin cancer, you may start to see age spots on your face, you can prematurely age, and it can increase the risk of scarring.

Also, look for sunscreens that are free of oxybenzone. This chemical is harmful to marine life, and protecting our oceans is mission number one for us!

Along with sunscreen, don’t forget the umbrellas, awnings, and beach tents! They’re the very best way to protect yourself on a long day at the beach. Make sure the kids spend time under the shade!
